I’ve got a problem. My problem is my business, and life in general. I have no idea what I want anymore.
2009 proved to be a shitty year in quite a few aspects of my life, failed business, passing of family, financial setbacks a plenty… it’s been rough.
I don’t really let stuff like that get me down though, and I’m determined to make 2010 my year of change.
So, throughout the month of January, I’ve accomplished almost nothing “productive” as I would have previously defined it. Instead I’ve been going through and auditing my life and business and reflecting on just exactly what it is that I want…. and I’m still stumped.
I’ve managed to delete a lot of things that I know that I DON’T want… so I guess that’s a start.
To be honest, though, I’m having trouble making cognitive decisions about what I really DO want… Where I want my life to head… What I want my business to become… What I want my life to be.
It’s tough stuff…
So, I pose this question to anyone reading this post: What was it that made you choose your path? How did you know where you wanted to head?
I have a feeling that it’s going to just boil down to me sacking up and doing random things until I find something I’m passionate about…
First, let me preface this by saying that I am not a doctor, I don’t even play one on TV.. I’m not responsible for what you put in your mouth, I’m just telling you what I’ve done. Be smart, don’t develop eating disorders please. And lastly, don’t hold me responsible for anything you do that might end you up in some form of medical trouble.. or any other trouble for that matter.
In the past 2 weeks, I’ve managed to lose 19 lbs of fat. In the past 2 weeks, I’ve done 3 pull ups, and my ab workout consists of me sitting up when it’s time for me to get out of bed. I’ve honestly done almost no physical activity. I’m a computer nerd by day, and can spend about 10-15 hours a day sitting in front of a computer. Needless to say… » Read more: A Practical Guide To Losing 20 lbs in 30 Days With No Exercise
I often look to people who have overcome huge obstacles, or achieved things that the average person just can’t seem to make work, in order to try and better round myself as a human, but also as a business person.
Check out this video I stumbled across of Will Smith and his philosophy on life. I thought it was pretty damn good.
Some of the quotes I like are:
“There’s no reason to have a plan B, because it distracts from Plan A.”
“I want to do good. I want the world to be better because I was here.”
“I realize that, to have the level of success that I want to have, it’s difficult to spread it out and do multiple things. It takes such a desperate, obsessive focus. You really gotta focus with all of your fiber and all of your heart and all of your creativity.”
In case some of your don’t know what I do, it’s called affiliate marketing. Essentially, I make money by promoting other people’s products and/or services. Essentially, I am an online, commission only, sales person. Only I use the “sales” part very loosly.
So, I’ve been asked about what I do so many times, and tried to explain so many times (to no avail), that I’ve decided that I will just do a very top level, basic overview case study of exactly what I do.
I’ll outline the entire process (which won’t be much, trust me), but I WILL make money from it.
In an effort to make the playing field level, and allow everyone to learn from it, I’ve set up some rules.
1. Everything must be no cost
All marketing efforts and “website development” must be from free sources leaving an easy point of entry for anyone interested in starting out.
2. I will spend as little time on it as possible.
For me, my time is far more important than money. I’d rather not work 1000 hours a week for a million dollar pay check. To me there is no point in living if you can’t enjoy your time. The object to this case study is to create as passive an income stream as possible, in as little time as possible, utilizing as little resources as possible.
That’s about it. I really want to be able to show people just how simple it really is. So, don’t take the above as me not wanting to try… I just want to show you that even a complete novice to the web could start making money online without any problem.
The Case Study:
So far the steps I’ve taken are:
Set up a free account at blogger.com
Written 3 articles
Developed an affiliate relationship on a CPL (cost per lead) basis with a company within the same niche
The niche that I’ve chosen has been the mortgage renegotiation niche. You can follow the blog here:
I stumbled across a great video this morning that pretty much just breaks it down for you… Art Williams breaks open a Pandora’s box of insight on what it takes to win at life.
It’s about 20 minutes long, but well worth the listen. If you don’t have the time to watch it, just let it play in the background and LISTEN to it.
In the video Art Williams talks about his thoughts on why winners win and losers lose.. Why “smart people” have a harder time winning at their goals than “dumb people” and the difference between a 50K / year earner and a 500K / year earner. I’ve got to say, it all pretty much makes sense now. I plan on watching this every time I feel like a victim of circumstance and/or feel like my motivation is waning.
So, go here and watch this video and take notes. And just so it doesn’t catch you off guard (if that kind of thing phases you), it’s got some religious content because he’s speaking to some of the worlds best known sales people…. TV evangelists. haha. But seriously, take a look because there is some gold to be found.
